40 Most Anticipated Films of 2012 (Part 2 of 4)
30. Haywire (1/20) - Directed by Steven Soderbergh. Starring Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor -- Soderbergh's (Ocean's Eleven, Traffic) films are always must-sees. Early reviews are giving high praise to new-comer Carano, and the rest of the cast is stellar.
29. Argo (9/14) - Directed by Ben Affleck. Starring Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston -- Affleck's first two films (The Town, Gone Baby Gone) were big hits, so I expect more of the same. The supporting cast that includes Cranston, John Goodman and Kyle Chandler looks great, and the synopsis sounds interesting.
28. Dark Shadows (5/11) - Directed by Tim Burton. Starring Johnny Depp, Eva Green -- Burton isn't my favorite director, but he's never bad. This isn't a animated film, so I'm on board. Monsters, vampires, witches, werewolves and ghosts? Sounds good to me.
27. Great Hope Springs (12/14) - Directed by David Frenkel. Starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones -- Could be a tear-jerker, but also could be hilarious; we'll see. Two fantastic veteran actors bumping heads sounds like a whole lot of fun. Add in Steve Carell to the mix and I think you may have something. Could be Oscar bait.
26. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World (4/20) - Directed by Lorene Scafaria. Starring Steve Carell, Keira Knightley -- This comedy sounds like a hoot. Steve Carell is a must-see right now. The supporting cast that includes T.J. Miller, Rob Corddry, Gillian Jacobs, Patton Oswalt, Adam Brody and Rob Huebel should have you intrigued.
25. Neighborhood Watch (7/27) - Directed by Akiva Schaffer. Starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn -- Could this be the return of the Stiller/Vaughn magic? I think yes. Jonah Hill, Billy Crudup and Will Forte will certainly add to the fun. This film sounds a little close to The 'Burbs, which is A-OK to me!
24. Dog Fight (8/10) - Directed by Jay Roach. Starring Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis -- This film sounds hilarious. Ferrell and Galifianakis both hitting the campaign trail in South Carolina sounds like way too much fun. We could see a little George W. Bush seeping out of Ferrell here.
23. This Is 40 (12/21) - Directed by Judd Apatow. Starring Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann -- In case you don't know, this is a Knocked Up sequel. I'm interested to see where Apatow (Funny People, The 40 Year Old Virgin) takes his characters. The only reason this film isn't higher is that we still don't know a lot about it.
22. The Five-Year Engagement (4/27) - Directed by Nicholas Stoller. Starring Jason Segel, Emily Blunt -- Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek) is re-teaming with Segel, which is incentive enough to see this film. The first trailer looks quite witty and very entertaining. Can't wait.
21. The Gangster Squad (10/19) - Directed by Ruben Fleischer. Starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn -- This film should probably be higher based on the tremendous cast that also includes Josh Brolin, Emma Stone and Nick Nolte. However, Fleischer (Zombieland, 30 Minutes or Less) is still unproven, especially in the art of drama.
#20-11 will be released tomorrow evening (1/12/12).
