Top 50 Films of 2009 (40-31)

#40. Taken (Directed by Pierre Morel) - This film is all Liam Neeson (Chloe, Darkman). Is it realistic? Definitely not, but it's damn entertaining. There are some great chase scenes and the action refuses to stop. A great popcorn movie.

#39. Sunshine Cleaning (Christine Jeffs) - Amy Adams (Doubt, Catch Me If You Can) and Emily Blunt (The Wolfman, Wind Chill) are at their comedic best. They run a crime scene cleanup service. Very interesting and funny stuff.

#38. Fired Up! (Will Gluck) - This film is rather stupid, and it's nothing new. But good Lord, it's funny. Eric Christian Olsen (Beerfest, Not Another Teen Movie) finally gets a chance to show his teeth. The laughs don't stop. Check it out.

#37. The Fourth Kind (Olatunde Osunsanmi) - The less you know about this film going in, the better. This film is downright creepy. The archival footage really adds to the fun. This is a top-notch alien abduction film.

#36. Invictus (Clint Eastwood) - I'm a huge Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino) fan, but rugby just isn't that interesting to me. Damon (The Informant!, The Departed) and Freeman (Gone Baby Gone, Se7en) both earned Oscar nods. Definitely worth a look.

#35. The International (Tom Tykwer) - Clive Owen (Children of Men, Duplicity) and Naomi Watts (Mulholland Dr., 21 Grams) are both atop their game in this thriller. There are some great action sequences that you don't want to miss. Give it a look.

#34. Bruno (Larry Charles) - In some ways, it's better than 'Borat'. You have to put up with some really stupid gags and some meat-spins, but this film is very funny. If you like Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Talladega Nights) than you'll love 'Bruno'.

#33. Paranormal Activity (Oren Peli) - One of the scariest and creepiest films in years. This film plays with your imagination and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Documentary style film making much like 'Cloverfield' and 'Quarantine'. Believe the hype.

#32. Star Trek (JJ Abrams) - Overrated in my book, but still good. The acting is sub-par, and the storyline is just okay. But the special effects are great and it's just good to see another Star Trek film after so many years.

#31. 2012 (Roland Emmerich) - I anticipated it to suck, big time; but it actually rules. The whole 2012 concept is a joke and a half, but this film is exciting and worth the trip. The cast gets the job done and the CGI effects are phenomenal.
