Top 30 TV Shows of All Time
20. Community ('09-Present)
Thursday's are one of my favorite nights for television because of NBC's Community and The Office. It didn't take long for me to get hooked on this show. Chevy Chase (Fletch, Caddyshack), Ken Jeong (The Hangover, Role Models) and Joel McHale (The Soup, The Informant!) first attracted me to the show. But the whole cast (minus Yvette Nicole Brown) is quite good. If you've ever spent time at a Community College, you should love this show.
19. Freaks and Geeks ('99-'00)
This show vaulted so many careers. Seth Rogen, James Franco, Peter Segel and Martin Starr all got their start on this show. Also, Judd Apatow, Jake Kasdan and Mike White directed/wrote a lot of episodes. America just wasn't ready for this show yet. Although I can't relate to many of the characters, I know a lot of people who can. You've seen episodes of this show, even if you don't remember.
18. Hung ('09-Present)
This show rules. HBO continues to produce fantastic shows, year in and year out. Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Mist) is terrific as the male gigolo. I dare you to watch the first episode and not watch another. It's simply impossible. This show is just getting going, and I can't wait to see where it goes next.
17. Eastbound & Down ('09-Present)
This show has to be seen to be believed. Danny McBride (Land of the Lost, The Foot Fist Way) plays Kenny Powers, an ex-MLB pitcher whose life has become a joke after a mental breakdown on the mound. Jody Hill, Will Ferrell, Ben Best and McBride have put together one hell of a show.
16. Curb Your Ethusiasm ('00-'02, '04-'05, '07, '09-Present)
Seinfeld co-creator Larry David has hit the jackpot once again. Although not as funny as Seinfeld, there is never a bad episode. Basically all of Hollywood has guest-starred on this show. After taking this year off, they're busting out ten new episodes in 2011.
15. MADtv ('95-'09)
It's not SNL, but MADtv had some wonderful years after the turn of the century. Michael McDonald, Will Sasso, Alex Borstein, Nicole Sullivan, Mo Collins and on and on and on. The great thing about MADtv, compared to SNL, the cast stuck together for almost a decade. The show started to crumble about four years back, but the I will never forget some of the outrageous skits.
14. Dexter ('06-Present)
One of the best shows you're not watching. The problem is that it's on Showtime. A lot of the country is unable to get Showtime. I wish Michael C. Hall was in more movies, because he is an electrifying actor. I still haven't caught up to the most-recent season, I'm looking forward to that moment.
13. Saturday Night Live ('75-Present)
Some episodes are funnier than others. That's usually based on who's hosting. The best years are long gone, but the show is still very watchable. Good musical performances don't hurt. When Will Ferrell, Tim Meadows, Chris Kattan, Tina Fey, Cheri Oteri, Chris Parnell, Molly Shannon, Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz and Tracy Morgan were all together, the show ruled the world.
12. Party Down ('09-'10)
"ARE WE HAVIN' FUN YET?!?" Do yourself a favor and watch season one...NOW! I can't believe this show got cancelled. It's truly a shame. Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr and Lizzy Caplan lead the stellar cast. Paul Rudd co-created it and Fred Savage directed most of the episodes. It aired on Starz starting in 2009. Only 20 episodes were made, but they're all unbelievable, especially season one with Jane Lynch.
11. Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law ('00-'07)
One of the best animated shows of all-time. The episodes are only 15 minutes long and unlike Family Guy and South Park, they NEVER get preachy or serious. Gary Cole (Office Space, Dodgeball) does the voice for Birdman, and he's tremendous. Stephen Colbert, John Michael Higgins, Peter MacNicol, Phil LaMarr and Lewis Black are regulars. This is probably my favorite Adult Swim original show.
