Top 50 Actresses
10. Ellen Page
Canadian actress Ellen Page has quickly won the hearts of the movie-going audience. A lot of people don't realize that she appeared in a few Trailer Park Boys episodes way back in the day. She arrived with a bang in 2005's Hard Candy. My, oh my, did that film throw me for a loop. But 2007 was her coming out party, as she dazzled in Juno.
-Juno
-Whip It
-Hard Candy
9. Maggie Gyllenhaal
Two Gyllenhaal's, two top ten actors. She truly is wonderful to watch on screen. She's actually quite funny at times, as seen in a hilarious performance in Away We Go. It's unfortunate that she won't have a role in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises.
-Away We Go
-The Dark Knight
-Crazy Heart
8. Cate Blanchett
Cate has been nominated for an Oscar five times! Who else could portray Bob Dylan and Katharine Hepburn, and get nominated for both roles? Here are a couple underrated films she's terrific in: The Good German and Heaven.
-I'm Not There.
-The Aviator
-The Talented Mr. Ripley
7. Reese Witherspoon
Her Oscar-winning performance in Walk the Line was simply amazing. She really opened some eyes in 1999's Election. After her divorce with Ryan Phillippe in 2008, Reese kind of fell off the map a bit. But she has a highly anticipated romantic comedy coming in December called How Do You Know. She also is penciled in for five films in 2011. Things are looking up!
-Walk the Line
-Rendition
-American Psycho
6. Zooey Deschanel
Zooey is the definition of gorgeous, and she just so happens to be one the best actresses out there. Her and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are beyond tremendous in (500) Days of Summer. One of her first roles was in the amazing Almost Famous, and she hasn't looked back.
-(500) Days of Summer
-Winter Passing
-Yes Man
5. Natalie Portman
For me, Garden State really launched her career. Good Lord, is she good in V for Vendetta. She has a couple big time films coming soon: Black Swan (12/3) and Thor (5/6/2011). Her most recent effort in Brothers was magnificent.
-V for Vendetta
-Brothers
-Garden State
4. Emma Stone
It didn't take long for Emma to take over Hollywood. She charmed us all in her first movie role in 2007's classic comedy, Superbad. Her new comedy Easy A got rave reviews. She's going to be a busy girl for the next couple of years as she gets more and more popular.
-Superbad
-Zombieland
-The Rocker
3. Drew Barrymore
For me, Barrymore is the funniest woman in the business. She has teamed up with the likes of Adam Sandler (twice), Ben Stiller, Jimmy Fallon and Justin Long. No matter how lame some of her films are, she always brightens things up. One of her best roles ever is opposite Ben Stiller in 2003's Duplex, directed by Danny DeVito.
-Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
-Duplex
-50 First Dates
2. Naomi Watts
Naomi has surprisingly only been nominated once for an Oscar (21 Grams). Here's a fun fact...Naomi has never had a bad scene in her career. The role that sprung her career to stardom was in 2001's Mulholland Dr. (A.K.A. Mulholland Drive).
-Mulholland Dr.
-21 Grams
-The Ring
1. Kate Winslet
I anticipated this decision being much harder than it actually was. Kate turned out to be the obvious choice. She easily has the best résumé. She's been nominated for an Oscar an astonishing six times, and she finally won for her fantastic role in 2008's The Reader. Two of her best roles have been beside my #1 male actor Leonardo DiCaprio (Revolutionary Road, Titanic). So, there you have it! Please comment and/or list your favorites.
-Revolutionary Road
-Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
-Titanic
HONORABLE MENTIONS (actresses who just barely missed the list):
Jennifer Aniston, Elisha Cuthbert, Kirsten Dunst, Dakota Fanning, Anna Farris, Marcia Gay Harden, Anne Hatheway, Holly Hunter, Melissa Leo, Laura Linney, Eva Mendes, Michelle Monaghan, Carrie-Anne Moss, Sarah Polley, Amy Ryan, Amy Smart, Susan Surrandon, Hilary Swank, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Catherine Zeta-Jones.
