Top 100 Films of the Decade (20-11)

We're down to the best 20 films of the last decade. There are some epic films in this list, some that are just plain funny, some of these films I'm alone on, and so on and so fourth. Some films in my top 20 you may hate, and that is quite alright because nobody is the same. So lets get to it.

20. The Weather Man (2005) - Directed by Gore Verbinski. Starring Nicolas Cage.
Cage is a fearless actor. No matter how stupid his films are (The Wicker Man, Next) or how fantastic his films are (Lord of War, Adaptation.), he gives his heart into the role. This is a very different side of Cage, and it's hilarious, sad, and painful. Great film.
19. Children of Men (2006) - Directed by Alfonso Cuaron. Starring Clive Owen.
Some people and some critics didn't necessarily think this film was all that good...ARE YOU HIGH? Everything about it is amazing. The acting, the storyline, the cinematography, ten minute long action shots. COME ON, MAN!
18. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007) - Directed by Jake Kasdan. Starring John C. Reilly.
Is this a rip-off of Walk the Line and Ray? Yes. Is it a "Scary Movie" type film? Yes, and it's funny as hell. The music is catchy and funny. The acting is over-the-top. The writing is fantastic. And John C. Reilly really comes out of his shell, which led to films like Step Brothers and a fantastic performance in a bad movie (Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant).
17. The Prestige (2006) - Directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale.
I'm not a huge Jackman fan, but he shines in this film. As you will see, Nolan has three films in my top 20. No other director has more than one. He's that good. He's the best director in the business right now, no contest.
16. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) - Directed by Adam McKay. Starring Will Ferrell.
The funniest film ever made, but it's not the best comedy. Laughs can only go so far, and they go very far here. McKay and Ferrell don't miss (Step Brothers, The Other Guys, Talldega Nights).
15. Michael Clayton (2007) - Directed by Tony Gilroy. Starring George Clooney.
Clooney at his very, very best. What a script, and what a performance by Tom Wilkinson. A fantastic debut for director Gilroy.
14. Walk the Line (2005) - Directed by James Mangold. Starring Joaquin Phoenix.
Phoenix's finest moment in his career. What a film. The music, the relationships, the drugs, it's all good here.
13. Vanilla Sky (2001) - Directed by Cameron Crowe. Starring Tom Cruise.
Crowe has disappeared recently, which is a shame. This is a beautiful, wonderful, thrilling film. It left me breathless the first time I saw it, seriously.
12. Superbad (2007) - Directed by Greg Mottola. Starring Jonah Hill, Michael Cera.
The coming-of-age film of the decade. Kids will be kids, and cops will be cops. What really puts this film into the great category is Bill Hader and Seth Rogen. Don't tell me you haven't seen this film!
11. The Departed (2006) - Directed by Martin Scorsese. Starring Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson.
This film just barely missed the top ten. It was darn close. Matt Damon is so good here. He steals the show. What a cast, what a story, what a film!

Michael Clayton
