Most Anticipated Films of 2011

50. Red State - Directed by Kevin Smith. Starring John Goodman, Melissa Leo.
Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) has been talking about making a horror film for four plus years. Time will tell whether or not it happens in 2011, but he says it will. A strong cast and a good directer is enough to intrigue me.

49. Limitless (3/18) - Directed by Neil Burger. Starring Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro.
Apparently the screenplay was to die for, so that's what drew me in. I'm not a huge Cooper (The Hangover, Case 39) fan, but having De Niro (Little Fockers, Righteous Kill) on board is never a bad thing.

48. Live With It - Directed by Jonathan Levine. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Kendrick.
If you read the plot line for this film you would probably think..."wait, wasn't Funny People already made?" Well, apparently (despite an eerily similar plot) this film is quite different. It's going to be much more serious and will boast a killer cast. A premiere date has yet to be set.

47. The Dilemma (1/14) - Directed by Ron Howard. Starring Vince Vaughn, Kevin James.
The only reason this film is on the list is the fact that Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Cinderella Man) is directing. Vaughn's (Four Christmases, The Break-Up) and James' (Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Grown Ups) films have been busts as of late, but there's still hope.

46. Melancholia (5/26) - Directed by Lars von Trier. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg.
If you've ever seen a von Trier (Antichrist) film and enjoyed it, then this film should be on your list. The cast looks pretty good and von Trier has kept this project a secret. I'm hoping he unveils something terrifying and breathtaking.

45. The Rite (1/28) - Directed by Mikael Hafstrom. Starring Anthony Hopkins, Ciaran Hinds.
We've seen our fair share of exorcism films, but the trailer looks interesting. Hopkins (The Wolfman, Silence of the Lambs) doesn't have many years left in him, so we need to soak up all we can.

44. The Lincoln Lawyer (3/18) - Directed by Brad Furman. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Phillippe.
This McConaughey (Tropic Thunder, Fool's Gold) film actually looks watchable. Who would've thought? Having Phillippe (MacGruber, Breach) on board never hurts. I'm uncertain about the first time director though.

43. I Am Number Four (2/18) - Directed by D.J. Caruso. Starring Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant.
The visual effects look great, and the cast is intriguing. Olyphant (The Girl Next Door, The Crazies) is always a riot. I just hope these young actors can act at least a little bit. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) has parted ways with Shia LaBeouf, but I'm not sure that's such a good thing.

42. Unknown (2/18) - Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. Starring Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger.
Neeson (Chloe, Taken) is in the prime of his career and his action movies are just as good as anything Stallone or Statham are putting out.

41. Real Steel (10/7) - Directed by Shawn Levy. Starring Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly.
The plot sounds ridiculous and the first trailer makes zero sense, but the special effects are probably going to be amazing. Jackman (The Prestige, The Fountain) isn't my favorite, but it's not his fault the movies he's in suck.

40. The Raven - Directed by James McTeigue. Starring John Cusack, Alice Eve.
This is supposedly based on the last days of Edgar Allen Poe. Sounds very interesting and McTeigue did direct V for Vendetta so...I'm in.

39. The Beaver (4/8) - Directed by Jodie Foster. Starring Mel Gibson, Jennifer Lawrence.
Say what you will about Mel Gibson's (Edge of Darkness, Ransom) personal life, his movies rock. I can't wait to see him talk to a stuffed beaver for an hour and a half.

38. Rise of the Apes (6/24) - Directed by Rupert Wyatt. Starring James Franco, Tom Felton.
I've always loved the Planet of the Apes films. Even the new one with Mark Wahlberg. I'll give it a chance, no doubt.

37. Sanctum (2/4) - Directed by Alister Grierson. Starring Ioan Gruffudd, Richard Roxburgh.
James Cameron (Titanic, Aliens) produced this film, so you might want to check it out. I've never heard of anyone involved, and that's often a good thing.

36. Captain America: The First Avenger (7/22) - Directed by Joe Johnston. Starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving.
This could be another stupid Marvel Comics film, but Johnston (The Wolfman, Jumanji) knows how to make a film. And I happen to like Chris Evans (Sunshine, Fantastic Four).

35. Priest (5/13) - Directed by Scott Charles Stewart. Directed by Paul Bettany, Maggie Q.
The cast looks a bit weak, but the visual effects look tremendous. Chances are that this is just another Clash of the Titans type of crapper, but the trailer is very intriguing.

34. Straw Dogs (9/16) - Directed by Rod Lurie. Starring James Marsden, Kate Bosworth.
A lot of people weren't too happy that this film is being remade. But when in the right hands, remakes can be effective and sometimes better. No Dustin Hoffman (Rain Man, The Graduate) will hurt, but I'm going to give it a chance.

33. Bridesmaids (5/13) - Directed by Paul Feig. Starring Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne.
I don't want to miss the first starring role for Kristen Wiig (Knocked Up, MacGruber). What really intrigues me is the fact that Paul Feig and Judd Apatow are re-teaming up a decade after their Freaks and Geeks days.

32. The Rum Diary - Directed by Bruce Robinson. Starring Johnny Depp, Aaron Eckhart.
It's still uncertain if this film will be made in time for a 2011 release, but a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas follow-up sounds like a great idea to me.

31. Warrior (9/9) - Directed by Gavin O'Connor. Starring Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton.
This film will probably fly under the radar, but when Tom Hardy (Inception, Bronson) is on screen I tune in. It seems like every year there's a good drama about boxing, and this could be 2011's.
