Most Anticipated Films of 2011

10. The Thing (10/14) - Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. Starring Joel Edgerton, Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
A remake of one of the best horror films ever made sounds good to me. Joel Edgerton (The Square) is a guy who will have a breakout year in 2011, I guarantee you that. I really hope this film isn't a letdown.

9. The Tree of Life (5/27) - Directed by Terrence Malick. Starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn.
This film looks intense. Brad Pitt (Inglourious Basterds, Fight Club) is a beast of an actor, and he looks rather intimidating in the first trailer. Sean Penn (21 Grams, Milk) chooses his roles wisely, so you know this movie is going to be great.

8. Your Highness (4/8) - Directed by David Gordon Green. Starring James Franco, Danny McBride.
Green (Pineapple Express) is hooking up again with Franco (Howl, 127 Hours). That is good news! The trailer looks hil-ar-ious. Can't wait!

7. Battle: Los Angeles (3/11) - Directed by Jonathan Liebesman. Starring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez.
I really dig the moody first trailer for this film. I think people are a little sick of alien invasion films (Skyline), but I'm not...as long as they're made right (District 9). I have a feeling this film is going to be different, in a good way.

6. Cowboys & Aliens (7/29) - Directed by Jon Favreau. Starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford.
This is one of those films that everyone is talking about. James Bond+Indiana Jones+Iron Man director=cinematic gold? Let's hope so...

5. The Green Hornet (1/14) - Directed by Michel Gondry. Starring Seth Rogen, Christoph Waltz.
The newest trailer finally has me excited to see this film. Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) is such a wonderful filmmaker and I'm looking forward to seeing his visionary style combined with Rogen's (Knocked Up, Funny People) timely comedy.

4. Super 8 (6/10) - Directed by J.J. Abrams. Starring Elle Fanning, Noah Emmerich.
We still don't know a whole lot about this film, but Abrams (Star Strek, Mission: Impossible 3) claims it's going to be epic. Good enough for me.

3. Contagion (10/21) - Directed by Steven Soderbergh. Starring Matt Damon, Kate Winslet.
Soderbergh (Solaris, The Good German) is one of my favorites. This is the film with probably the best cast of 2011 (Damon, Winslet, Cotillard, Fishburne, Cranston, Paltrow, Law and Hawkes). I'm lovin' it!

2. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (12/21) - Directed by David Fincher. Starring Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara.
Fincher+Stieg Larsson's best-selling book=top ten film of 2011. Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace, The Jacket) is aiming to have the best year of any actor in 2011. If you haven't seen the original Swedish film, then please do so.

1. Sucker Punch (3/25) - Directed by Zack Snyder. Starring Emily Browning, Jenna Malone.
BOOM! Bet ya didn't see this one coming. I nominate Sucker Punch for best trailer of the decade. Hot chicks+Zack Snyder+CGI+guns+monsters+robots+Silversun Pickups=Most anticipated film of 2011.
